LASCOPA tells Lagos consumers to report fraud, demand accountability
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has urged consumers to report unfair trade practices, misleading advertisements, defective products, shortchanging, and poor service delivery in order to promote fairness in the marketplace.
The general manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, gave the advice in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, ahead of a consumer empowerment campaign scheduled for Surulere on June 19.
Mr Solebo said the agency remained committed to resolving consumer complaints through mediation and lawful interventions while also promoting ethical business practices across Lagos state.
According to him, the campaign, organised in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps’ community development service group, is part of efforts to strengthen consumer awareness at the grassroots.
He explained that the ‘Know Your Rights’ advocacy programme was designed to educate residents on their rights and responsibilities as consumers.
Mr Solebo noted that it reflected the agency’s commitment to preventing exploitation and ensuring a fair marketplace.
The general manager added that during the outreach, LASCOPA officials and NYSC CDS members would engage residents, traders, artisans, and service providers on key consumer protection issues.
“These include the right to quality goods and services, price transparency, and the importance of demanding receipts and warranties,” he said.
Mr Solebo, therefore, advised residents of Surulere to participate actively in the programme, ask questions, and learn more about their rights and obligations.
He also encouraged them to save the agency’s social media handles and call numbers to report any violations of consumer rights.
