Bauchi electoral commission fixes August 17 for council elections

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has issued a 60-day notice for the local council election scheduled for August 17, 2026.
This was announced in a statement by Nuru Abdulhamid, the commission’s secretary, on Friday in Bauchi.
He said the notice complies with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which mandates that it be issued to political parties, stakeholders, and the general public ahead of the election.
Mr Abdulhamud recalled that the commission had earlier issued a 360-day notice in August 2025, in line with legal requirements, providing sufficient time for political parties and other stakeholders to prepare for the electoral process.
He advised political parties intending to participate in the election to conclude their internal preparations and ensure strict adherence to the Electoral Law and the commission’s guidelines.
“Detailed timelines, procedures, and other relevant information regarding the elections will be released in due course,” he said.
The secretary reiterated the commission’s commitment to free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.
