Kano agency seeks end to frequent clashes with soldiers on traffic enforcement

The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has called for government and military intervention to address recurring clashes between its officers and some members of the Nigerian Army during traffic enforcement operations in the state.
The Managing Director of KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud-Kabir, disclosed this in a statement by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Abubakar Ibrahim, on Saturday in Kano.
He stated, “Incidents of disagreement between KAROTA officials and some military personnel during routine traffic management duties are on the rise. We are legally empowered to regulate traffic, enforce road safety measures, and ensure compliance with traffic laws to protect motorists.”
The managing director alleged that some soldiers often refuse to comply with traffic regulations and lawful directives issued by KAROTA officers while they carry out their statutory responsibilities.
“The agency holds the Nigerian Army in high regard and appreciates its critical role in maintaining national security. However, compliance with traffic laws remains the responsibility of all individuals and institutions without exception,” he said.
Mr Mahmud-Kabir appealed to the state government, military authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate dialogue that will strengthen cooperation, mutual respect, and understanding between KAROTA and the Nigerian Army.
He said inter-agency collaboration and strict adherence to established regulations would help prevent future misunderstandings and improve service delivery.
The managing director reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and constructive engagement with all security agencies in the discharge of its responsibilities.
