Woman arraigned for alleged N25.1 million fraud in Lagos

A 33-year-old woman, Taiwo Oluwaseun, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly obtaining N25.1 million by false pretences.
Ms Oluwaseun, whose address was not stated, faces a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, fraudulent conversion and obtaining by false pretences.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant and others still at large allegedly committed the offences in July 2025 at Sonnex Packaging Nigeria Limited, Ojota, Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant conspired with others to steal the company’s funds.
Ms Ikhayere alleged that Ms Oluwaseun fraudulently transferred N120,000 belonging to the company and unlawfully converted its property to her personal use.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant conspired with others to defraud the company of N25 million.
She said the total amount allegedly defrauded from the company was N25.1 million.
She said the offences contravened Sections 280, 286, 325 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Lateef A. Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1.5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Owolabi ordered the sureties to provide evidence of tax payment and undergo address verification.
The case was adjourned until June 30 for further hearing.
