An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, on Tuesday granted bail to a 28-year-old woman, Angel Nwigwe.

Ms Nwigwe was granted N800,000 bail over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that Nwigwe allegedly committed the offences in August 2025.

Ms Ikhayere alleged that the incident occurred around the Chevron area of Lagos State.

She said Nwigwe allegedly obtained N8.2 million from Valeria Onyenankeya Valeria under a false business arrangement.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant claimed she needed the money to revamp her business operations.

The prosecutor alleged that Nwigwe failed to use the funds for the stated purpose.

Ms Ikhayere further alleged that the defendant converted the money to her personal use after receiving the funds.

The police also accused the defendant of stealing the N8.2 million belonging to the complainant.

The offences, according to the prosecution, contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Ms Nwigwe pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before the court.

Following her plea, the Magistrate, Lateef A. Owolabi, granted her bail with conditions attached.

The magistrate ordered the defendant to provide responsible sureties before being released.

The court’s decision followed consideration of the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until July 1, 2026, for further hearing.

The defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
