Businesswoman seeks divorce over alleged threat to life
A businesswoman, Elizabeth Patrick, on Wednesday filed a divorce petition Upper Area Court, Masaka, Nasarawa State, seeking to dissolve her marriage to her husband over alleged threat to her life.
Patrick, a mother of four, filed the case against her husband, Abdullateef Anafi, a mechanical engineer.
According to the particulars of claims, the petitioner resides in Area I, Masaka, Karu LGA, while the respondent resides at Zone 4, Masaka, Karu LGA, both within the jurisdiction of the court.
She said that she got married to the respondent on May 5, 2013, under the Akoko-Edo native law and customs.
She stated, “My husband and I have had a lot of misunderstandings which forced me to leave my matrimonial home for more than one year. He disrespects my parents. He has threatened me with a machete twice. I live in constant fear. He injured me with the machete on May 18. I reported the matter at the Masaka Police Station.”
Responding to the claims, Anafi granted her divorce under the Islamic law, rights in the court, insisting he had nothing else to say about the matter.
He also granted her custody of the children as requested.
The Judge, Salisu Mohammed, also granted them divorce based on Islamic law and practice.
He ordered her to observe three months of waiting period (Iddah) based on Islamic law.
The judge adjourned the matter until July 13 for hearing in the application for custody of the children.(NAN)
