Carpenter bags eight-month jail term for stealing air conditioner worth N350,000

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, sentenced a carpenter, Boluwatife Adewumi, 20, to eight-month imprisonment for stealing an air conditioner worth N350,000.
Mr Adewumi, who was arraigned on September 9, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, theft, unlawful entering and malicious damage, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Though granted bail, Adewumi could not meet the conditions imposed and was therefore remanded in custody and attended hearing from the prison since September 9, 2025.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe found Adewumi guilty as charged and sentenced him to eight-month imprisonment without an option of fine.
Ms Ayofe ordered that the eight months shall count from the date of arraignment, September 9, 2025, when the convict has been in prison.
She sentenced the convict to eight-month imprisonment on each of the four-counts, to run concurrently.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that Adewumi committed the offences on September 5, 2025, at about 3.25 a.m., at Mutual Benefit Insurance Company, Onireke, Ibadan.
He said the convict and others at large stole an air conditioner worth N350,000, belonging to the aforementioned company.
According to the prosecutor, the convict unlawfully entered the company and maliciously damaged the AC with the intent to steal it.
He said that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 516, 390(9), 412 and 451 of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
