Police arraign 24 over mob killing of Kaduna teacher

The police command in Kaduna has arraigned 24 suspects for the killing of Malama Ummulkhair, an Islamic school teacher, in Maraban Jos, Igabi local council.
The suspects were arraigned before a magistrate’s court at NDA Junction following the fatal attack on Sunday.
The defendants are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.
The court adjourned the case until July 21 for further hearing and ordered that the suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.
The police condemned the killing as an act of mob justice, describing it as unlawful and a threat to public order.
Authorities said investigations were ongoing, with more than 100 additional suspects being investigated for alleged involvement in the attack.
The police commissioner, Muhammad Rabiu, said the command was committed to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining law and order in the state.
Mr Rabiu urged residents to channel grievances and criminal allegations through lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
