The police on Wednesday charged a man, Abbah Suleiman, before a Dutse Magistrates’ court in Abuja over alleged criminal trespass and stealing.

The defendant, who resides at phase 2, site 1, Kubwa, Abuja, is standing trial on charges bordering on the offences.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, O.J. Okpa, told the court that a building site owner, Sadiq Musa of Wuse II in Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on June 18.

He alleged that the defendant unlawfully entered the claimant’s site located at 2/1 Kubwa, Abuja, and stole already installed electrical wires worth about N6.3 million.

The prosecutor alleged that during the investigation the defendant confessed to the crime but could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 288 and 342 of the Penal Code.

The Senior Magistrate, Ibrahim Alkali, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must have reliable means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Mr Alkali adjourned the matter until July 15 for hearing.
