The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Kaduna and District Society have urged individuals and businesses to embrace tax compliance to promote national growth and shared prosperity.

The call was made on Thursday in Kaduna during the 2026 National Tax Awareness Day with the theme “Tax Awareness for National Growth, Reform, Compliance and Shared Prosperity.”

The Chairman of CITN Kaduna and District Society, Yakubu Isa, said the event was designed to educate Nigerians on taxation and encourage voluntary compliance.

He explained that tax practitioners, administrators and other stakeholders used the occasion to create awareness about the importance of taxation in national development.

He noted that the awareness campaign was initiated by the national leadership of the CITN and implemented simultaneously across the country.

The CITN chairman described the programme as a new approach to tax advocacy aimed at improving public understanding of taxation and boosting compliance levels.

He said the institute intends to sustain the initiative as an annual event to deepen taxpayer education nationwide.

Mr Isa appealed to taxpayers who had yet to comply with tax regulations to take advantage of the awareness campaign and fulfill their civic responsibilities.

Speaking at the event, lead paper presenter, Ibrahim Muazu, highlighted key amendments introduced under Nigeria’s new tax administration framework.

He said the reforms provide a more standardised and comprehensive structure for tax administration compared to the previous system.

Mr Muazu noted that the framework broadens the tax base, clarifies taxable income sources and clearly defines liable individuals and enterprises.

He added that the reforms provide incentives and exemptions for small businesses, particularly companies with annual turnovers below N100 million.

According to him, such companies are exempted from company income tax and value-added tax under the current provisions.

Mr Muazu also stressed the growing role of technology in tax administration, citing provisions that support digital innovation in tax processes.

He said the Rev360 platform was introduced to automate tax administration and improve efficiency, transparency and compliance.

Also speaking, Head of Accounting and Business Intelligence Unit, NRS Kaduna 1 Emerging Tax Office, Falalu Yahaya, described Rev360 as a comprehensive tax administration solution.

Mr Yahaya said the platform enables taxpayers to register, file returns, make payments and generate tax clearance certificates without external interference.

He added that tax consultants could also manage clients’ tax matters through the platform, improving service delivery and convenience.

According to him, Rev360 serves as an intelligence tool that supports tax administrators in monitoring compliance and strengthening revenue administration.

“The Rev360 is a modern digital tax administration ecosystem designed to simplify how taxpayers interact with the Nigeria Revenue Service.

“It has features, such as simplified registration, filings and payments; objections and appeals, among others, that make compliance easier, faster, and more transparent,” he said.

Prior to the lecture, participants embarked on a road walk across key parts of the Kaduna metropolis to sensitise residents and business owners to their tax obligations.
