Police arrest seven suspected armed robbers in Katsina, hunt fleeing accomplices

The Katsina State police command has detained seven suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered stolen property and weapons used for their operations.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Katsina.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu said the arrests followed a report received at the Central Police Station, Katsina, on June 19, at about 2:00 a.m., that armed robbers broke into a residence at Unwala Quarters in the metropolis.
He said the suspects, armed with cutlasses and clubs, allegedly attacked the occupants and carted away two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and two power banks.
He added police operatives immediately launched an intelligence-led investigation, leading to the arrest of the seven suspects.
According to him, the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He said that a search of their hideouts led to the recovery of five stolen mobile phones, two power banks, two cutlasses, a pinch bar used for housebreaking, a flashlight and a bunch of master keys.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspects also identified four alleged accomplices still at large, and allegedly involved in disposing of the stolen property.
He said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining stolen items.
The police spokesman said the suspects in custody would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
