Four Bauchi suspects arrested over alleged defilement

The state police spokesperson said the suspects were arrested following reports received at various divisional police headquarters between 19 and 26 June, 2026.

The Bauchi State police command has arrested four suspects in separate cases of alleged sexual violence involving minors across Darazo, Shira and Itas-Gadau local government areas of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested following reports received at various divisional police headquarters between 19 and 26 June, 2026.

“Firstly, on 20th June, 2026, a complainant from Wuntin Dada, Jos Road, Bauchi, reported that on 19th June, 2026, one Abdullahi Iliyas, male, 27-year-old, allegedly lured his 9-year-old sister (name withheld) and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” Mr Habib said.

He said that in another incident reported on 20 June 2026 at about 11:00 p.m., a 37-year-old father and staff member of General Hospital, Darazo, alleged that Isiyaku Ibrahim, also known as Malam Abba, 28, a volunteer staff member of IQRA Integrated Academy, Unguwar Dakomazo, lured his 10-year-old daughter into a classroom between noon and 1:30 p.m. on 4 and 19 June 2026 and sexually assaulted her.

“The suspect further threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.

“On 26 June 2026 at about 3:30 p.m., a 35-year-old resident of Zubo Village, Shira Local Government Area, reported that his age mate, Adamu Hassan, 35, of the same community, allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of his eight-year-old daughter and gave her N50,” he added.

In another incident, Mr Habib said a 38-year-old resident of Gulmo Village in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area reported on 26 June 2026 at about 11:00 a.m. that Muhammad Suleiman, 18, of Unguwar Mu’azu, Doguwa, Yana Town, allegedly took his four-year-old son into a room on 25 June 2026 at about 8:30 p.m. and sexually assaulted him.

“Upon receipt of the reports, police operatives visited the scenes, arrested all the suspects, and rushed the victims to Police Clinic Bauchi and General Hospital Shira/Yana for medical examination and treatment,” he said. 

He said that preliminary investigations had been concluded in the cases.

He added that the cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.
