Court remands five over alleged attempted murder in Osun

An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of five persons at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over alleged attempted murder.
The defendants—Azeez Murtala, Sunday Friday, Fatai Olamilekan, Famuyiwa Adekunle and Tiamiyu Ismail—pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge.
The Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, ordered their remand, citing the gravity of the alleged offence.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatola, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 26 at a railway station in the Ayedire area of Iwo.
Mr Fatola alleged that the defendants conspired to attack and assault their victims—Tijanni Kazeem, Tijani Adebayo, Tijani Abidemi, Alao Rukayat, Popoola Opeyemi and Tijani Musilimi—using dangerous weapons and charms.
He said the offences contravened Sections 351, 86, 249(1)(d), 516 and 320(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendants had no defence counsel when the case was called.
The magistrate ordered that they remain in custody pending the filing and hearing of a formal bail application.
The case was adjourned to August 10 for mention.
