The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that requests for the review of the remuneration of political and public office holders receive fair consideration during the ongoing exercise.

The Chairman of the commission, Dr Bello Shehu, gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving members of the Council of Retired Permanent Secretaries, led by its National Vice Chairman, Akin Arikawe.

Mr Shehu said the commission remained committed to conducting the remuneration review in line with its constitutional mandate, adding that the process would be fair and transparent.

He described retired permanent secretaries as one of the pillars of Nigeria’s public service, acknowledging their immense contributions to national development.

According to him, their wealth of experience and institutional memory remain invaluable in policy formulation and national decision-making.

 He added that experienced public servants continued to play vital advisory roles in addressing complex national issues and shaping government policies.

Mr Shehu said that the commission had concluded the review exercise and forwarded its recommendations to President Bola Tinubu for consideration.

 He said the recommendations captured substantial aspects of the concerns raised by the Council of Retired Permanent Secretaries.

 The chairman also assured the delegation of the commission’s support for measures that would guarantee dignified living conditions for retired permanent secretaries.

Earlier, Mr Arikawe said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the commission and appreciating its efforts in addressing issues affecting members of the council.

 He said the council was established to harness the wealth of experience of retired permanent secretaries in supporting government through policy advice and preserving institutional memory.

Mr Arikawe reaffirmed the council’s commitment to contributing to reforms aimed at strengthening governance and public administration in the country.

Also speaking, the Commissioner representing Kebbi State in the commission, Rakiya Haruna, commended members of the council for their dedicated service to the nation.

Mrs Haruna urged them to continue mentoring younger public servants and supporting ongoing reforms in the public service.

In his remarks, Director of Allocation Department, RMAFC, Dr Usman Umar, said the commission had commenced work on the issues raised by the council and was undertaking the necessary consultations.
