Kwara police command has arrested three suspects linked to the abduction and subsequent murder of a student, Sadiq Olaniyi.

The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Wednesday, said, “‎A thorough and painstaking investigation conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Kwara state police command, has unravelled the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, culminating in the arrest of three suspected members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity for their alleged involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of the victim,” the statement stated.

The arrested suspects are ‎Adeoye Babatunde Alimi (23), alias ‘Solar’, Bernard Kayode (25), alias ‘KK’, and Owoyemi Bashiru (27), alias ‘GDP’.

The command said ‎preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were members of a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the abduction of Mr Olaniyi, 29, an indigene of Oyo state who went missing on June 4.

It explained that ‎during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction.

“Investigation further revealed that the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine other suspects currently at large. The tactical efforts have since been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, dismantling of the criminal network and recover the corpse of the victim,” the statement said.

‎‎The command said the suspects were assisting investigators with useful information regarding other violent crimes allegedly perpetrated by the group within Ilorin metropolis, adding that all persons found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
