The Nigeria Under-17 football team, the Golden Eaglets, will depart Nigeria on Thursday night to participate in a four-nation international football tournament in Yinchuan, China.
The Nigerian Football Federation announced in a statement on Thursday that the five-time world champions will participate in the tournament alongside host China, Australia, and Tanzania.
The tournament will be held from July 5 to 11.
“Five-time world champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, will depart the shores of the country on Thursday night for China to participate in the four-nation China International Youth Football Tournament taking place in Yinchuan from July 5 to July 11.
“The team of 20 players is led by Coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse, alongside his assistants Kalli Mohammed Kachalla and Abdullahi Isa,” it stated
The tournament is organised by the Ningxia Football Association in conjunction with the Yinchuan Sports Bureau and promoted by the China Football Industry Development Corporation.
The tournament will serve as a big test for the Golden Eaglets as they continue preparations for this year’s WAFU B U17 Championship, slated for September 2026.
The championship will serve as qualifiers for next year’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
