A Chinese technology company has launched a new range of full-size, hyper-realistic humanoid robots called “emotional companions”.

They are designed to assist with household tasks, accompany people in their daily lives and facilitate social interaction, according to Global Times, a TV BRICS partner.

The robots are available in two versions: “male” and “female”. The male model stands 183 cm tall and weighs around 42kg, while the female model is 168 cm tall and weighs 35.2kg.

According to the developers, the devices can replicate over 90 per cent of basic human movements.

The robots feature the world’s first large-scale model of “emotional” artificial intelligence, which recognises more than 20 shades of emotion with over 90 per cent accuracy. The system is designed for long-term interaction.

The range includes models across various price segments, but the current price point targets tech enthusiasts and corporate clients.

The company expects that the transition to mass production will reduce prices over time.

To date, over 10,000 pre-orders have been received. The production plan for 2026 envisages manufacturing up to 50,000 units.

The inauguration of the range has also sparked debate on social media.

Some users see such robots as a way to combat loneliness and a practical tool for everyday assistance, for example, to remind them to take their medication or provide support in emergencies.

Others fear that emotional attachment to AI companions could reduce people’s interest in maintaining social connections.
