Gov. Yusuf directs anti-graft agencies to oversee fertiliser distribution in Kano

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution of subsidised fertilisers across the state.
The directive was announced in a statement on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin.
Mr Dawakin said the governor tasked the anti-graft agencies with ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution exercise.
“The Governor gave the directive during the flag-off of the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertilisers to farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state,” he said.
According to him, the involvement of the anti-corruption agencies is intended to ensure the fertilisers reach genuine farmers while preventing diversion, hoarding and other sharp practices.
He also urged the 44 local government chairmen to conduct the distribution with honesty, fairness and accountability.
Mr Dawakin said the intervention is aimed at reducing farming costs, boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening food security.
“The governor warned that anyone found diverting the fertiliser or frustrating the programme would be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he added.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, describing agriculture as a key driver of Kano State’s economy.
