Kano: Gov Yusuf spends N928 billion on community development projects

The Kano government says it has spent over N928 billion on the execution of 1,508 community development projects in the last three years of Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.
Nura Sumaila, the commissioner for public procurement, projects monitoring and evaluation, stated this at a news conference on Sunday in Kano.
He said that 799 of the projects had been completed, and 709 others were at various stages of completion across the state’s 44 council areas.
Mr Sumaila said that 619 constituency projects were also being implemented through members of the Kano State House of Assembly.
He said that the projects included road construction, urban renewal, education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, security, water supply, and other critical sectors aimed at improving people’s living standards.
The commissioner said that the urban renewal projects accounted for contracts valued at N169 billion, and N118 billion spent on the construction of five-kilometre roads in 38 LGAs.
Mr Sumaila said that over N397 billion was expended on rural infrastructure projects across the 44 LGAs, and security projects, including the establishment of neighbourhood watch divisions in 36 LGAs, gulped N6.8 billion.
According to Mr Sumaila, the ministry engages civil engineers, electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and other professionals, who monitor projects to ensure compliance with approved contract specifications.
He reiterated his commitment to transparency, value for money, and effective project monitoring to ensure the quality execution of projects in Kano.
Mr Sumaila also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain project monitoring and evaluation to ensure that contractors deliver projects in line with contractual obligations.
