About seven travellers were killed in a fatal road crash along the Okene-Lokoja Road at Osara in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A Sienna bus with registration number SGD 517 XL (Edo) was conveying passengers from Auchi to Abuja when it crashed on Sunday afternoon.

The Kogi State sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge, said the crash occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday near the Osara settlement.

According to Mr Fagge, the driver was travelling at high speed when one of the vehicle’s tyres burst, causing him to lose control of the bus.

“The driver was at top speed when his tyre burst. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, left his track and rammed into a stationary articulated vehicle beside the roadside, where its driver and motor mate were fixing a punctured tyre.

“Seven persons, including the motor -mate of the truck driver, died on the spot, while three persons survived the carnage. The injured were taken to a hospital at Okene for treatment, while the dead were deposited at another hospital at Okene for autopsy,” he said.

Mr Fagge advised motorists to inspect their vehicles thoroughly before embarking on any journey to help prevent road crashes.
