Suspected herdsmen have reportedly killed a local vigilante, identified as Friday Ishaku, and injured his colleague during an attack in Minjing village, Horop District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Kefas Mallai, chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, told Peoples Gazette on Monday that the incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

“I found out that Friday Ishaku was killed yesterday by herders at Horop district of Bokkos LGA, Plateau State,” he told The Gazette via a phone chat.

Mr Mallai said the deceased was shot in the head, while his colleague, Daniel Yilbin, sustained injuries during the attack.

“The victims were on duty in the nearby bush as local vigilantes when the attackers came in the midst of cattle, pretending to be shepherds.

“When the local vigilante began to ask the first herder, the rest of them started shooting from the herds. Despite resistance, the attackers were able to kill one and injure one,” he added.

Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, did not respond to The Gazette’s request for comments.

The latest incident comes days after gunmen invaded Nyango village in the Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area on June 30 and killed three miners.
