PDP women’s leader backs Adebutu’s governorship bid in Ogun
The Peoples Democratic Party national women’s leader, Adenike Ogunshe, says the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun, Oladipupo Adebutu, will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.
Ms Ogunshe stated this on Thursday in Abeokuta, during a thank-you visit to the party’s governorship candidate and PDP leaders in Ogun for selecting a woman as the deputy governorship candidate.
She said that the PDP was approaching the 2027 general elections strategically, with clear plans rather than noise.
According to her, the party understands the feelings and aspirations of the people of Ogun and will ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every household and community in the state if elected.
“We believe strongly in our mission, and when women believe in something, they commit themselves fully to it,” Ms Ogunshe said.
The woman leader described Mr Adebutu as a candidate who had learned from the party’s national leaders, grassroots leaders and women.
“We have our strategies, and we have what it takes to move Ogun to greater heights. Every administration that has governed Ogun has contributed in one way or another, but we believe we have additional value to offer — value that Ogun State has not experienced before,” she said.
Ms Ogunshe urged the people of Ogun and Nigerians to give the PDP another opportunity, saying it was time to embrace hope once again.
“This is a party Nigerians have loved and supported because, when the PDP was in leadership across Nigeria, many Nigerians felt hopeful and optimistic about the future, and we must return to that position once again,” she said.
Ms Ogunshe added that, as the party’s national woman leader, she was not working alone but was collaborating closely with PDP diaspora groups to support the party’s candidates across Nigeria.
She said their vision extended beyond politics, adding that they wanted Nigerians abroad to be proud of their identity wherever they lived.
Ms Ogunshe said that Nigerian women were among those most affected by the current economic challenges, adding that the decision to pick a woman as deputy governorship candidate deserved commendation.
In his response, Mr Adebutu commended the national woman leader and her team for the visit.
He said women play a vital role in the progress and development of any nation, and so he picked a woman as his running mate in recognition of the sacrifices women make and in compliance with constitutional provisions.
Mr Adebutu also called on the people of the state not to sell their future, but to vote massively for PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The PDP deputy governorship candidate, Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo, said she was humbled and excited by the level of acceptance she had received from the people of the state.
The PDP women’s leader in Ogun, Titilola Adeyemi, urged residents of the state to embrace the PDP for the desired positive change.
Accompanying the PDP national woman leader on the visit were the party’s women’s leaders from Lagos, Kehinde Olojede; Ekiti, Ayodele Bose; and Ondo, Adebisi Funmilola, among others.
