Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi has donated 10 electric power motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to strengthen traffic management and emergency response on highways.
Mr Ododo made the donation on Thursday during his investiture as the grand patron of the FRSC special marshals at the 2026 strategic stakeholders’ conference on road safety in Lokoja.
Presenting the motorcycles, Mr Ododo said the equipment would enhance the FRSC’s operational capacity, improve emergency response and strengthen highway patrol operations.
The governor also elevated his senior special assistant on road safety matters, Dr Suberu Yusuf-John, to the position of special adviser in recognition of his dedication and contributions to advancing road safety initiatives in the state.
Mr Ododo commended the FRSC for its consistent efforts in saving lives on Nigerian roads and pledged to strengthen collaboration with the agency and other stakeholders to reduce road crashes.
He said that his investiture as grand patron of the FRSC special marshals would further motivate him to support initiatives to protect the lives of road users.
The governor noted that Kogi’s strategic location as the gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria places enormous pressure on its road network, making effective traffic management and road safety interventions critical to the nation’s socio-economic activities.
He assured the FRSC that requests presented during the conference would receive favourable consideration by the state government.
“I hereby dedicate my investiture as grand patron of the special marshals of the FRSC to President Bola Tinubu.
“The honour bestowed on me reflects the President’s vision of promoting safer roads and protecting the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed appealed to the Kogi State government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic management.
Mr Mohammed said that the initiative was already underway and nearing completion.
He described the donation of electric patrol motorcycles as a major boost to the Corps’ operational capacity, adding that the equipment would enhance nationwide road safety operations.
