The Federal Ministry of Works says it has executed over 70 road projects in Kano State in the last two years.

The projects include both infrastructure upgrades and emergency interventions between June 2024 and June this year, according to the federal controller of works in Kano, Abdulsalam Dayyabu-Kurfi.

Mr Dayyabu-Kurfi disclosed this in an interview on Friday in Kano. He said the projects reflected the federal government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting socio-economic development in Kano.

“The ministry commenced the dualisation of the Kano-Kwanar-Danja-Hadejia Road in 2024. We also awarded the contract for the 37.018km Kano northern bypass,” he said.

According to him, contracts for sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road were re-awarded.

“Work also commenced on Section I of the Kano-Maiduguri Road, covering Kano to Shuwarin. The ministry also completed the 38.7km Yakasai-Badume-Damargu-Marken Zalli Road within the review period,” he said.

Mr Dayyabu-Kurfi noted that 27 emergency projects were awarded in 2024, adding that 24 had been completed and 2 were ongoing. He added that all 12 emergency intervention projects in Kano had been completed.

“Under the FG’s 260 nationwide road palliative initiative, we carried out works to address flood-damaged bridges, failed road sections and culverts. The Kano-Kwanar-Danja-Hadejia Road was completed and commissioned in June 2025. Significant progress has also been recorded on the Kano northern bypass and Section II of the AKK Road,” Mr Dayyabu-Kurfi explained.

The controller added that construction had resumed on three other roads: Kwanar Garko–Garko–Kibiya, Dawakin Tofa–Gwarzo–Dayi, and Kano–Katsina Phase I.

“In 2025, 34 emergency projects were awarded, 16 have been completed, while others are ongoing. Newly awarded contracts have reached the mobilisation stage and site handovers have been done for some,” he said.

He noted that a substantial completion milestone was achieved in 2026 on the Kano section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road.

“Work is also ongoing on the Kano Northern Bypass and the Kano-Maiduguri Road. Two additional emergency projects in Kaura Goje and Takai were awarded in 2026,” Mr Dayyabu-Kurfi said.
