Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his re-nomination as the APC vice-presidential candidate for 2027.

In a statement on Sunday, Mr Tajudeen described the re-nomination as recognition of Mr Shettima’s competence, merit and unwavering loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria.

He also commended Mr Tinubu for retaining confidence in Mr Shettima, saying the decision reflected strong leadership and reinforced unity within the ruling APC.

Mr Tajudeen said the vice president had remained dependable since assuming office, helping the administration maintain focus on improving Nigerians’ welfare and delivering governance.

“I join leaders and countless members of our esteemed party in congratulating Vice President Kashim Shettima on his re-nomination alongside President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He added that Mr Shettima had consistently demonstrated loyalty and dependability, enabling the administration to remain focused and determined to improve citizens’ lives.

According to the speaker, Mr Tinubu’s decision reflects extraordinary leadership, sound political judgement and enduring confidence in the vice president’s capacity to serve effectively.

“I make bold to say this decision has further strengthened our party’s chances in the 2027 election. APC will easily cruise to victory come January,” Mr Tajudeen stated.

Meanwhile, the APC National Director-General of Volunteers, Dr Victor Oluwafemi, also applauded Mr Tinubu for reaffirming Mr Shettima as his running mate for the presidential election.

Mr Oluwafemi described the decision as a demonstration of confidence, continuity and strategic leadership that would strengthen public trust in the administration’s direction.

He said Mr Tinubu’s decision reinforced confidence in reforms targeting economic recovery, stronger institutions and improved national security despite inherited challenges.

Mr Oluwafemi also congratulated security agencies for rescuing the abducted Oyo pupils and teachers, describing the operation as a significant achievement for national security.

He said, “The rescue of innocent children is not merely a security success. It restores hope and reaffirms the state’s commitment to protecting citizens’ lives.”

He praised security agents for their sacrifices and urged greater investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, border security and community engagement.

Mr Oluwafemi also advocated improved welfare for members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to sustain ongoing efforts against insecurity nationwide.

He, however, expressed concern over attempts by some political actors to exploit security incidents for partisan advantage ahead of the general elections.

According to him, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and violent crime affect every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or religious background.

He urged political leaders, opinion moulders and commentators to exercise restraint, warning that divisive narratives could weaken national unity and embolden criminals.
