Aliyu Bello, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has advised aggrieved aspirants in the party’s just-concluded primaries to accept defeat in good faith.

Mr Bello gave the advice on Monday when he led members of the party’s State Working Committee on a thank-you visit to the speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, in Lafia, the state capital.

The APC chairman said the visit was to appreciate the speaker for accepting the outcome of the APC primaries for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency in good faith.

Mr Bello urged those who couldn’t make it in the just-concluded APC primaries to emulate the speaker by accepting the outcome in the interest of peace, unity, progress and development of the party.

“After the APC primaries, despite the outcome of the primaries, the speaker came out clearly to identify with the party, the governor, and all the party winners.

“If it were somebody else that was speaker of the state legislature, he would do something differently,” he said.

Mr Bello said other aspirants should emulate the speaker and demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship.

“So we appeal that if you lose this time, tomorrow is another day. There are other positions in the state and federal that you can be appointed to.

“So we are calling on those who lost out during the party primaries to emulate the speaker by accepting defeat in good faith,” the chairman said.

Responding, Mr Jatau thanked the chairman and his team for the visit and assured them of his continued commitment to the party’s victory beyond 2027.

“I have accepted it even in the chamber as the will of God. That is how it’s supposed to be, as leadership comes from God. And I have moved on. We should move forward for the victory of the party,” he said.

The speaker assured the party leadership of his continued commitment to mobilising support for the party’s candidates in 2027.
