Gov Buni approves academic allowances for Yobe university lecturers

Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the payment of the three academic allowances to lecturers at the Yobe State University, Damaturu.
The allowances include a consolidated academic tools allowance (CATA), a professorial allowance and an earned academic allowance (EAA), according to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Mamman Mohammed, on Tuesday.
According to him, payment of the allowances will commence in August.
Mr Mohammed said the approval followed a report on the review of the academic staff welfare and remuneration package by a fact-finding committee that the state government had earlier constituted.
“The committee visited some selected state-owned universities across Nigeria to investigate, compare and report what was obtained in other state universities,” he said.
The governor’s aide listed the institutions visited as Bauchi State University, Kaduna State University (KASU), and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, in Kano State.
Mr Mohammed said the initiative aligns with the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
According to him, the allowances will enhance staff welfare and improve academic excellence.
He said the acting secretary to the state government, Mohammed Goje, earlier received the report from the committee and commended its members for doing a good job that would support industrial harmony.
