NHRC receives 118 human rights complaints in Kano
The National Human Rights Commission in Kano says it received 118 complaints of alleged human rights abuses in June. Its coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday in Kano.
Mr Abdullahi, giving a breakdown of the cases, said that 75 bordered on child abandonment and right violations, 23 on domestic violence and right to life, and 20 on economy and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and neglect of parental responsibilities.
According to him, the commission treated 82 of the cases while 36 are still pending.
”The commission also mediated on marital matters between couples,” he said.
He therefore urged couples to be more tolerant with one another to manage their responsibilities.
The NHRC coordinator assured that the commission would continue to strengthen collaboration with security operatives and other relevant agencies to promote and protect human rights in the state.
