The Transmission Company of Nigeria has received two new 100-megavolt-ampere power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33-kilovolt substation project in Katsina.

TCN’s spokeswoman, Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday that the delivery supports the company’s strategic grid expansion programme nationwide.

Ms Mbah said the transformers were delivered under TCN’s strategic grid expansion project aimed at strengthening the national grid network and improving bulk electricity supply to Katsina and the wider North-West region.

“The power transformers are critical components required for the completion of the substation. Once installed, tested, and inaugurated, they will increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts.

“When the substation is completed and energised, it will increase the reliability, flexibility, and overall efficiency of power transmission. It will also significantly boost TCN’s capacity to evacuate additional bulk electricity,” she said.

She said the increased transmission capacity would enable the company to deliver more bulk electricity to distribution companies serving Katsina and neighbouring communities, thereby enhancing power supply across the region.

Ms Mbah said that the Katsina substation project is among several transmission infrastructure projects being implemented nationwide to support grid expansion, modernisation, and reinforcement across Nigeria’s electricity sector.

According to her, the projects are designed to strengthen transmission infrastructure and ensure the national grid can effectively meet the country’s growing electricity demand and future energy requirements.
