Police arrest suspected bandit in Kano

The police recovered items including two sets of suspected military uniform.

The Kano State police command said a suspected bandit identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna, was arrested with an AK-47 magazine, 109 rounds of ammunition and a military uniform at Rimaye village, Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

A statement on Tuesday by the command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa said the suspect was arrested on Saturday, July 12, 2026 at about 6:00 p.m.

“On Saturday, 12th July, 2026 at about 1800hrs, operatives of Bichi Division acted promptly on credible information from a good Samaritan regarding a person seen wearing a suspected military uniform at Rimaye Village, Bichi LGA.

He said the police team in collaboration with members of the Rimawa Community, intercepted the suspect, identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna, ‘M’, 28 years old, of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters, Dala LGA, Kano State.

Mr Kiyawa said items such as one AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms were recovered.

Other items recovered include, three military caps, one suspected fake military identity card, one national ID card, one NIN slip, one voter’s card, four ATM cards and one pair of desert boots.

He further said the suspect confessed to being in the area for the purpose of onward delivery and supply of the recovered items to bandits operating in the bush.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the Rimawa Community for their vigilance and for promptly reporting to the police. 

“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” Mr Bakori said.

Mr Kiyawa said the suspect is currently in custody, adding that a discreet investigation has commenced to apprehend other suspects and dismantle the criminal networks.

He added that the case will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
