World’s Richest AI Creator: Meet Deepseek founder Liang Wenfeng worth $36 billion

Ranked among China’s 100 richest people, Mr Liang was on Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in AI in 2025 and on Fortune’s 100 Most Powerful People in Business.

Liang Wenfeng, founder of DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence company, has emerged as the world’s richest AI creator, with a fortune of over $30 million.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranks Mr Liang as the richest among AI creators, with a net worth of $36 billion.

With his estimated fortune, Mr Liang ranks ahead of other AI creators, including Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman.

Born in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, China, in 1985, Mr Liang is 41 years old. He spent his childhood and completed elementary school in Zhanjiang, where his father was also a school teacher.

He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Information Engineering in 2007 and a Master of Engineering in Information & Communication Engineering in 2010 from Zhejiang University.

Liang co-founded Ningbo High-Flyer Quantitative Investment Management Partnership (Limited Partnership) in 2016. Three years later, Mr Liang founded High-Flyer AI, dedicated to AI algorithm research and its applications.

Building on his experience from High-Flyer AI, Mr Liang launched DeepSeek, the project that brought him his huge fortune and global fame in 2023.

As the founder, Mr Liang owns and controls 78 per cent of DeepSeek’s stake, unlike other AI creators, who hold smaller stakes in their projects.

Ranked among China’s 100 richest people, Mr Liang was on Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in AI in 2025 and on Fortune’s 100 Most Powerful People in Business.
