Hisbah arrests Zamfara woman for witchcraft

The Hisbah Commission in Zamfara has arrested a woman, Khadija Abdullahi, accused of witchcraft practices in her residence in the Gadar Baga area of Gusau.
Hisbah’s spokesman, Umar Haruna Tsafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
The arrest followed complaints from community leaders about alleged spiritual activities at the suspect’s residence.
According to Mr Tsafe, the commission’s operatives raided the residence after receiving reports from residents.
Meanwhile, the director of operations, Lawal Abubakar Maradun, said the suspect admitted using certain perfumes during interrogation and claimed to possess spirits.
Mr Maradun added that the suspect told investigators she would recite prayers over water and give it to people as a form of treatment.
He also said operatives found a woman identified as Asiya Lawal at the residence during the operation.
According to Mr Tsafe, Ms Lawal had visited the house to seek spiritual treatment for an ailment.
