A businessman, Khalid Mansur, on Monday, prayed a Shari’a Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to grant him access to his two-year-old child under the custody of his ex-wife, Khadija Sani.

‎Mr Mansur, who spoke through his counsel, Murtala Ahmad, said he divorced his wife on June 9.

Mr Ahmad told the court that the complainant, a traveller, has a home in Kaduna and should be allowed to take his two-year-old boy home for weekends whenever he visits.

He promised that he (the complainant) would take care of the boy and return him to the defendant on Sundays before he leaves.

He alleged that his client had an agreement with Ms Sani after the divorce that the boy would stay with him throughout the weekend, saying he would take full responsibility for the child.

The counsel to the defendant, Adamu Garba, said they had no objection to what the complainant’s lawyer said but would not allow the boy to spend the night at the complainant’s place.

‎Mr Garba explained that the complainant was allowed to spend time with the son but would be returned to her mother in the evening, as the child was still young for sleepovers.

He prayed the court to ask the complainant to pay a N100,000 monthly feeding allowance for the child.

‎The judge, Mu’awiyah Shehu, asked the complainant if he agreed to pay the amount.

Mr Khalid answered, “No, I would only be able to pay N30,000 and still want to take my child home for weekends.”

His counsel said they would only accept to pay N50,000 instead and that the child would be returned the same day after spending time with the father.

The judge adjourned the case until August 11 for further mention.
