American President Donald Trump has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested in the U.S.

Mr Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Monday, dismissed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s threat to arrest the Israeli leader to face prosecution at the International Criminal Court.

“Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America,” Mr Trump said, lauding Mr Netanyahu as an ally against Iran.

“He (Mr Netanyahu) is fighting against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters, and has spent the last 47 years killing American soldiers, and others,” Mr Trump said. “The only ones that should be arrested are the people that led Iran into this unprecedented spiral of death and destruction, something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous presidents!”

Mr Mamdani said over the weekend that his office would look into the possibility of arresting Mr Netanyahu if he visits New York for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

“I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague,” stated Mamdani, referring to the ICC’s arrest warrant against the Israeli leader in 2024.
