The Federal High Court, Kaduna Division, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 26-year-old woman in prison custody for possessing 26kg of cannabis.

The defendant, Felicia Gregory, is standing trial on a one-count charge of possession of illicit drugs.

She was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) but pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, T.J. Atserhegh, told the court that the defendant was caught by operatives of NDLEA in possession of the narcotic substance.

He also alleged that the defendant was found in possession of 4g of methamphetamine.

The offences contravene the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.

Following her guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a short adjournment to enable him to review the facts of the case. He further urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.

The trial judge, Justice Hawau’u Buhari, consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

The court adjourned the case until August 31 for a review of facts.
