Gas tanker catches fire in Lagos
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has contained a fire involving a gas-laden tanker at Ola Farm Bus Stop on Abaranje Road in Ikotun, with no casualty recorded.
The agency disclosed this in a statement by its head of public affairs, Olawale Afolabi, on Thursday.
It said the incident occurred after the tanker reportedly hit a road bump at high speed, causing the driver to lose control.
According to the agency, the impact led to a tyre burst, which ignited the fire.
LASEMA said its response team arrived at the scene to find the tanker engulfed in flames.
It said the team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings and road users.
The agency said the operation was supported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikotun Division, who managed traffic diversion and crowd control.
It said no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident.
LASEMA added that the fire had been completely extinguished, while efforts were ongoing to evacuate the affected tanker from the road.
It said heavy-duty equipment had been deployed to remove the tanker and restore free flow of traffic.
The permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, urged motorists to observe speed limits, particularly around road bumps and residential areas.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said compliance with traffic regulations would help protect lives and property.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to disaster preparedness, rapid emergency response, and public safety across the state.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu also urged residents to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free lines, 112 and 767, for prompt response.
