Citi Foundation has trained more than 100 students in Lagos on financial literacy as part of activities marking its annual Global Community Day.

The initiative, according to a statement, was organised in collaboration with Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) and focused on budgeting, saving and responsible financial decision-making.

Citi said the Global Community Day is its longstanding tradition of mobilising colleagues, alumni, family members and friends to contribute their time, skills and expertise in support of the communities it serves.

It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth.

Nneka Enwereji, managing director and chief executive officer of Citibank Nigeria Limited, said the initiative reflected Citi’s commitment to expanding financial capability and promoting inclusive economic growth.

“Through Global Community Day, we continue to invest in initiatives that expand financial capability and support inclusive economic growth,” Ms Enwereji said.

“Our collaboration with Junior Achievement Nigeria enables us to deliver meaningful, practical learning experiences that equip young people with the tools to succeed,” she added.

Olaolu Akogun, acting executive director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, said the organisation was committed to equipping young people with the skills and mindsets needed to succeed in a rapidly changing economy.

“At Junior Achievement Nigeria, we are committed to equipping young people with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy,” he said.

He added that the partnership with Citi had created opportunities for students to gain practical financial knowledge and build confidence in their future.

The bank said it would continue to work with community partners such as JAN to promote financial inclusion, economic empowerment and long-term resilience.
