50-year-old woman dies, child injured in head-on collision in Ireland

The police said the road is currently closed to facilitate forensic examinations.

A 50-year-old woman has died and a child sustained serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision in the Republic of Ireland on Friday.

The collision occurred at about 5 p.m. between a car and a truck on the R162 at Corclare, Shercock, in County Cavan.

The driver of the car died at the scene, while the child, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Temple Street Hospital.

GardaĆ­, the Irish police, said several other people travelling in the vehicles received medical treatment at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.

The police said the road is currently closed to facilitate forensic examinations with diversions in place.

GardaĆ­ have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
