Super Falcons showcase Nigerian attire in 2026 WAFCON photoshoot
Nigerian football fans have commended the Super Falcons after they appeared in coordinated traditional attire for their official 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) photoshoot.
The 10-time African champions shared photographs of the squad dressed in matching green-and-white traditional outfits inspired by Nigerian fabrics and styles on their official Instagram page.
The photoshoot not only provided official media images for the team but also projected Nigeria’s cultural identity to an international audience.
The images highlighted the role of sports in promoting fashion, cultural heritage and national pride.
The photographs attracted thousands of reactions on social media, with supporters praising the players for embracing indigenous fashion ahead of the continental championship.
An Instagram user, @guchiamah, described the players’ appearance as a reflection of champions, saying, “Drip check WAFCON big aunty vibes because 10 times they’ve proven themselves, the best in the game.”
Lifestyle brand @diah_interiors also expressed support for the team, commenting, “Let’s go queens… we are solidly rooting for you all.”
Similarly, @udoka_unachukwu wrote, “Let’s go Queens.”
Another supporter, @_p_r_e_s_h_y, celebrated the players with the words, “My women!!!”
@abazwhyllzz wrote, “Drip, confidence and ready for the mission,” while @sonofthesoil___ urged Nigerians to, “Let’s rally behind the Super Falcons!” as the team prepares for the tournament.
Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie, who also shared photographs from the session on Instagram, wrote: “Naija no dey carry last.”
The team’s cultural display comes amid growing global recognition of Nigerian fashion, with traditional fabrics increasingly featured at international fashion shows, sporting events and cultural exhibitions.
The Super Falcons’ choice of attire has been widely seen as another platform to showcase Nigeria’s creativity, diversity and cultural heritage beyond the football pitch.
