Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published certificates of presidential candidates, including President Bola Tinubu’s controversial Chicago State University certificate.

INEC published the certificates and documents of presidential candidates in local government headquarters across the country on Saturday.

The commission published the personal credentials of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, alongside his running mate, Kashim Shettima. 

The electoral body also released the particulars of the presidential candidates for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, alongside their respective running mates.

The documents, displayed in Form EC9 at INEC offices nationwide, contained the candidates’ educational qualifications, personal particulars, work history, affidavits and other supporting credentials required for nomination.

INEC said the exercise aimed to promote transparency and provide members of the public with the opportunity to scrutinise the credentials and other particulars submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

The commission noted that the publication was in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

“The Commission is on course with its preparations for the 2027 general elections and will continue to carry out every stage of the electoral process in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the commission’s regulations and guidelines,” INEC said.

INEC said the publication allows the public to scrutinise and familiarise themselves with the details and credentials of candidates seeking elective positions in 2027. 

“The exercise is aimed at promoting transparency and providing members of the public with the opportunity to scrutinise the credentials and other particulars submitted by candidates seeking elective offices,” the electoral umpire said.
