One dead, several injured in bandit attack on Kwara community

One person was killed and several others injured after suspected bandits launched a violent attack on Lata Nna community in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
NupekoTV-Lafiagi, a media outlet based in Kwara North, reported that the incident happened Sunday morning, adding that the attackers targeted farmers on their farmlands and shot at them indiscriminately.
Witnesses also said the deceased, identified as a Nupe woman, had gone to the farm with others when the gunmen struck and killed her during the attack.
They added that local vigilantes quickly mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
“The gunshots were not from locally made weapons. The attackers came suddenly. Although vigilantes mobilised, they confirmed that one woman had already been killed before they arrived,” a resident said.
When contacted for comment, police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi promised to confirm the incident and get back with details.
The latest incident came amid killings and kidnappings in several Kwara communities, particularly in Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, Ifelodun, Irepodun and others.
The incident came days after President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of a Nigerian Army battalion in Omu Aran, Irepodun LGA of the state to strengthen security and curb killings, kidnappings and other violent crimes.
