Team Nigeria finished the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, held from July 23 to August 2, with 24 medals in total, to sit in seventh place on the final medals table and become the only African nation in the top ten.

Team Nigeria secured ten gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals across four sporting competitions, with Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi winning gold medals in men’s 400m, men’s 400m hurdles, and men’s shot put, respectively.

Goodness Nwanchukwu also secured gold by defending her women’s discus throw with a F42-44/F61-64 result; Udodi Onwuzurike, Ruth Usoro and Jessica Oji won silver in the men’s 200m, women’s long jump and women’s shot put events.

Nigeria also won bronze in the women’s 400m by Ella Onojuvwevwo, who thereafter joined her teammates to win another bronze in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Tobi Amusan and Kayinsola Ajayi each won bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles and the men’s 100m races, while Temitope Adeshina won bronze in the women’s high jump. It became Nigeria’s first CWG medal in the high jump in over 70 years.

Nigeria also won medals in para-powerlifting, weightlifting, and judo.

Australia topped the medals table with 171 medals (70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze), followed by England with 110 medals (29 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze), Canada came third with 62 medals (19 gold, 20 silver and 23 gold), India ended in fourth with 39 medals (13 gold 17 silver and nine bronze), while the hosts is fifth with 39 medals (13 gold, nine silver and 17 bronze).

New Zealand came sixth with 36 medals (10 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze), Jamaica finished eight with 19 medals (10 gold, four silver and five bronze), Wales won 31 medals (none gold, ten silver and 12 bronze), while Malaysia completed the top ten with 16 medals (eight gold, three silver and five bronze).

African nation that made it in the top 20 include 11th placed South Africa with 28 medals (seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze), Kenya is 13th with 12 medals (three gold, four silver and five bronze), Mauritius is 15th with four medals (one gold, two silver and one bronze), Cameroon is 16th with five medals (one gold, one silver and three bronze).

The 2026 CWG had about 3,000 athletes competing for 215 gold medals, a decline from the 2022 edition in Birmingham, England, which had over 5,000 athletes competing in 280 medal events.
