The Anambra government has urged communities in Nnewi North and Nnewi South local government areas to comply with town planning regulations to accelerate the state’s ongoing urban regeneration.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Chijioke Ojukwu, made the call on Monday at the August general meeting of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi in Nnewi.

Mr Ojukwu said compliance with planning regulations would complement the state’s urban renewal efforts and make governance more effective.

“There is the need for the people to support government by complying with town planning regulations.

“The attention given to Nnewi by Governor Chukwuma Soludo requires corresponding support through strict adherence to planning regulations to fast-track the ongoing urban regeneration,” he said.

Earlier, the president-general of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Jude Osumuoh, commended Mr Soludo and the chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Echezona Anazodo, for implementing development projects and programmes in the area.

Also speaking, Mr Anazodo reaffirmed the council’s commitment to complementing the state government’s development agenda and addressing the needs of the people.

The senior special assistant to the governor on media, Ebuka Onyekwelu, urged residents to support the government’s public-private-community partnership (PPCP) development model, describing development as a collective responsibility.

Several speakers at the meeting commended the governor for ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly road construction and other urban renewal initiatives across Nnewi.

They also appealed to the state government to expedite action on all ongoing projects in the area.

The meeting reaffirmed the unity of Nnewi, dismissing reports of divisions, as leaders of the various quarters and ward representatives of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi expressed a common position.

The meeting also inaugurated a new board of trustees for Nzuko-Ora Nnewi and a committee to review the association’s constitution.

The committee members include Lotanna Okoli (SAN), Amala Anazodo and other stakeholders.

Mr Soludo, in June 2026, announced plans for a major urban regeneration programme in Nnewi during a visit to the town, with implementation now underway.
