SSS cautioned us about anti-xenophobia protest, Nigerian youths say
The Forum of National Youth Leaders of All Political Parties in Nigeria has postponed its planned protest over reported xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The forum, in a statement on Wednesday by its chairman, Eze Chukwu, said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders, particularly with the State Security Service on Tuesday.
The SSS advised the group to reconsider the protest’s timing due to security concerns arising from other planned demonstrations scheduled for the same day.
The forum subsequently consulted its members and resolved to postpone the protest in the interest of public safety and national peace.
It reiterated that the planned demonstration intended to draw attention to the welfare and safety of Nigerians living in South Africa and to advocate for diplomatic solutions to reported attacks.
The forum commended the federal government’s ongoing efforts to engage relevant authorities and address concerns affecting Nigerians in South Africa.
It added that the postponement did not affect its commitment to seeking justice for victims and promoting the protection of Nigerians abroad.
The group said a new date for the protest would be announced after further consultations with relevant stakeholders.
It urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
