176 villagers kidnapped in Kwara community regain freedom after six months in captivity
About 176 villagers abducted in Woro village, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained freedom after spending six months in the captivity of the terrorists.
The victims, mostly women and children, were kidnapped on February 3 when terrorists invaded the community, abducted several persons and killed many others.
Details surrounding the victims’ release were sketchy as of the time this report was filed.
It was also unclear whether a ransom was paid or not to secure their freedom.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communication, Ibraheem Abdullateef, confirmed their freedom in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
He wrote, “Breaking: Woro Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom
“Kwara State Government is happy to share that the security forces have rescued the people who were kidnapped at Woro community in Kwara North.
“Kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!.”
The Peoples Gazette earlier reported that the Kaiama residents protested to demand the release of the victims.
