Gunmen on Tuesday killed three brothers of the same family members in Tarai community, Jol district of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A statement sent to Peoples Gazette on Wednesday by Rwang Tengwong, the spokesman for Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) said the gunmen invaded the village at about 10:47 p.m.

The victims are identified as Dachung Danjuma (51), Victor Danjuma (37), and Nyam Danjuma (35) who are siblings.

He stated that the aged mother had lost all her five sons to violent attacks.

“Her first son was killed in 2002 during the attack that displaced natives from Rankum, a community now known as Mahanga. Another son was killed during one of the attacks on Jol in 2025,” Mr Tengwong said.

He stated the deceased siblings left behind nine children with their wives widowed by the attackers.

“Their wives, children and aged mother had fled their home after the recent attack on the neighbouring Tanjol community and had only begun preparing to return following signs of relative calm when tragedy struck again,” he stated.

He further noted that while family members and sympathisers were conducting the mass burial of the three brothers, gunmen invaded Darwat village and carried out aggressive grazing on farmlands and fired sporadically, creating fresh panic among residents.

The state police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, was not immediately available for comment. SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him remained unanswered as of press time.

In July, The Gazette reported that a three month old and eight other family members were killed in Wereng-camp and Kum villages in the same LG of the state.
