Nigeria thrash Egypt 6-2, face Cameroon in WAFCON quarter-finals
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured their second win of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, beating Egypt 6-2 in Rabat on Wednesday.
The reigning champions opened the scoring with a goal from Asisat Oshoala in the 21st minute, scoring from the penalty spot after VAR confirmed a possible handball in Egypt’s 18-yard area.
Nigeria increased the tally with a goal from Gift Monday, scoring his first goal of the tournament, set up by Omorinsola Babajide.
Nadine Ghazi brought Egypt back into the game, converting a penalty right before the half-time whistle.
After the break, Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal lead.
The Super Falcons secured their second penalty kick with Christy Ucheibe converting from the spot at the 81st minute.
The Egyptians scored another goal three minutes later, with Ghazi netting her second goal of the game.
Rashidat Ajibade and Joy Omewa scored to book their ticket into the quarter-finals.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Cameroon in the last eight on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Zambia edged Malawi 2-1.
