Some football enthusiasts in Aba have expressed confidence in the Flying Eagles of Nigeria’s capacity to defend the ongoing West Africa Football Union Zone B title won in 2024.

The Eagles claimed the title by defeating their arch-rivals, Ghana’s Black Satellites, 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Stade Kégué in Lomé, Togo.

Speaking in separate interviews on Thursday in Aba, they said the team had shown it was capable of retaining the trophy.

The Flying Eagles defeated the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, in the semifinals to face Burkina Faso in the final of the competition.

One of them, Benjamin Njoku, said he expected the team to reach the final but would be excited if they won the title.

“The Flying Eagles have been a good side, and with the experience of the technical adviser, Abdul Maikaba, Nigeria should sing glory in the final.

“Though Burkina Faso beat us in the group stage, our game against the host gave the players much confidence going into the final,” he said.

Also, Mercy Amadi hailed the team’s wonderful performance against the hosts and for overcoming the pressure from the home crowd.

Ms Amadi said that the Eagles had all it takes to win the title and should not allow Burkina Faso to defeat them the second time in the competition.

On her part, Ebere Okoro, urged the technical team to use the best legs in the final and ensure they finish the job they started with a win against Ghana.

“We are waiting to celebrate the trophy; I believe the technical team and the players can deliver the job,” Ms Okoro said.
