Multi-talented Nigerian gospel singer, Lekan Remilekun Amos, is an indigene of Ilaje; a distinct coastal community in Ondo State. The major occupation of the Ilajes include  fishing, wooden boat building, wood carving and timber business.

The Ilajes are also endowed with sonorous voices which inspire good songs and take lovers of good music to zenith of musical frequency. Their traditional music is biripo, a culturally rich genre of music fused with traditional drums immersed in call and response vocals.

The popular Ilaje Zion music originated from the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church of Zion; a dominant denomination among the Ilajes. The music brand is similar to the biripo music style in tonal delivery but distinct, spiritual and imbibes traditional drums.

It’s important to note that the late Ilaje music exponent, Remilekun Amos, Lekan’s father, was credited as the leading figure among the zion singers. He played a major role in the music emergence with his matchless voice, unique composition and matchless style of rendition. The white garment church relishes his songs till date even though they are artistically rendered without modern instruments. The songs are rendered alongside a keyboard but heavy on local accompaniments, gangan and modern drums.

Lekan, fondly called Omo Dafidi by his teeming fans, came into the music scene as a teen; precisely 19 and focused on importing the song across the world, asserting its uniqueness on the global stage and ensuring its appeal to the large Christian audiences across denominations particularly youths.

The determination was first noticed in his first album in 2002 and the second in 2023. Though he once stated during an interview that he actually experimented with the two albums to test the waters, the acceptance was extraordinary. That motivated him to release “Aye Soro” in 2005 which bolstered his foray into modern day music world and since then he has never looked back; expanding the gospel form and reinventing it to suit diverse Christian audiences.

He also courted consummate music producers and fused modern musical instruments such as keyboard, guitars (lead, solo & bass), saxophone and violin with traditional percussions like gangan, omele, bata and sakara to complement the melodious beats appealing to wide-ranging youths and elders within and outside Nigeria. Some of the notable musicians he performed on stage with included King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Fabiyi Obey, Tope Alabi, Lanre Teriba and Yinka Ayefele among several others. 

As a graduate of physics electronics, Lekan’s educational background reflects hugely in the evolution of the music genre. 

The fusion of beats and percussions in his music asserts to this creativity. He also organised and featured in various campus musical shows including concerts and collaborated with popular artistes. This intentional musical plan quickened the acceptance of his music genre with enhanced promotional networks.

His discography includes Padawa Olu Omo (2002), Omo Boannerge (2003), Aye Soro (2005), Aditu Nla (2007), Igi Aruwe (2010), Olorun Esan (2012), The Light (2013), Ifarada (2015),  Ore Ofe Live Series (2016), Afowofa (2017), Majemu Titun (2019), Oluwa De (2022) and Breaking News (2025). Other singles are Irin Ajo, Ara and Iranlowo.

This prolific and deeply prophetic musician has graduated into controlling his streaming and downloads on major digital streaming platforms such as Spotify, boomplay, Audiomack, Amazon Music, YouTube and other musical platforms where he controls thousands of streams and watch hours.

Besides, his huge following on social media across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok is noteworthy. He has successfully launched the Ilaje Zion Music genre internationally with frequent musical trips to the United Kingdom, Israel and many African countries. He commands appreciable fan base in the UK because the country has a tangible population of Yoruba-speaking audiences who are in love with his music style.

Though a proud C&S member, Lekan’s music has penetrated several Christian denominations especially the Pentecostals with huge worshippers; a feat exclusive to him among other Zion music singers.

The most distinguishing feature of his music style is the ability to retain the deeply spiritual and philosophical messages and strong connection to the old Ilaje Zion music style despite his modern style penetrating afrobeat, reggae and juju rhythms and connecting to a larger audience beyond the Ilajes. The Ilaje music style was formerly largely listened to by the Ilajes but that has changed with the evolution of Lekan’s songs now enjoyed at social gatherings, concerts and church programmes.

Many up-and-coming gospel artistes have either robustly experimented with or patterned their musical trajectories along his music style. Songs and tracks such as “Woli Bali,” “Gbato Ba Nkoja Larin Opo Eniyan,” and “Oluwajomiloju Gidigan,” among others have been consistently remixed by the singers. 

The multiple award-winning artiste founded not-for-profit organisations such as Remilekun Amos International Gospel Ministry and the Descendants of David Revival Network to spread the gospel and further propagate his music.  

Many scholars have explored his oeuvre for research studies especially from the prestigious University of Ibadan and the Obafemi Awolowo University; both in South-West, Nigeria.

It’s noteworthy that he adopted his legendary father, Remilekun Amos’ name to keep his legacy alive; thus he professionally bear Lekan Remilekun Amos.

His music enjoys tremendous air plays on radio stations across Nigeria and overseas. The gospeller is also a regular guests on entertainment programmes on radio and television stations. He is indeed a sought-after musician at social events, revivals, public and government functions.
