Gov Yusuf spends N300 million on Hisbah-organised mass wedding

Governor Abba Yusuf has released N300 million to Hisbah in Kano for a mass wedding.
The chairman of the board, Aminu Daurawa, on Thursday announced the plan during a pre-marital orientation for yet-to-be-married couples at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
“Each bride will receive N200,000 to cover the dowry and serve as start-up capital,” Mr Daurawa said.
Mr Daurawa said the funds will be sent into the private account of beneficiaries for transparency.
Hisbah disclosed that the Kano government would provide the prospective couples with household furniture, and each groom will receive 10 yards of fabric, a cap, shoes, and food items.
“The intervention is designed to ease the financial burden on couples at the beginning of married life and promote stable families.
“The Hisbah board does not encourage divorce without reconciliation. Any marital disagreement should first be brought before the board for mediation before any further action is taken,” Mr Daurawa said.
During the orientation, the Islamic moral police cautioned husbands to treat their wives fairly, with love, responsibility, and respect.
